This is a brilliantly lucid work and a very important book. The publisher of The Power of Now, this year bring us The Presence Process. Although, in truth, both works stand alone impeccably, Michael Brown's book seems to pick up where the Eckhardt Tolle work left off. The Presence Process elaborates on a similar theoretical foundation by engaging us in a simple and concrete process designed to solidify our abidance in the Now.

Tolle, Brown and others have defined our true identity as Pure Presence and might assert that pain and dysfunction don't really exist, are merely illusions born of time and mind. Acknowledging the convincing (if illusory) tyranny of mind and time, however, Brown's work promotes conscious integration of the unconscious phenomena that distract attention from our true nature.

For readers new to these ideas, certain of Brown's assertions may be radical and challenging. However, those who celebrated the eloquence and irrefutable wisdom of Eckhardt Tolle's classic, or most anyone on the path of integrated consciousness, will find this book an exceptionally incisive reminder and synthesis of realizations poignantly familiar or inevitably forthcoming on this journey. It thus offers valuable and practical support.

In The Presence Process, Brown has assembled, from his own experience, a blend of wisdom and tools reminiscent of psycho-spiritual and self-help disciplines we may recognize from elsewhere. Anticipating this, he carefully explains the distinctions in practice and intent of his own.

This workbook, of sorts, guides us through stages of insight and integration using the steady rhythm of a three-fold practice. We are offered a foundational breathing practice, which promotes focus and presence and illuminates hidden emotional material; a weekly activating statement; and accompanying readings.

A particular virtue of this Process would seem to be its simplicity, which makes it a "do-able" means of delving deeply and gently into, and reconciling, the modes of human existence that can seem to work at cross purposes. His insight is refreshing; and his understanding of mechanisms that stand in our way gives the author credibility and the reader comfort and courage.

Given the cumulative nature of this journey, I did wonder how much the degree of transformation cultivated in this Process is contingent upon a reader's existing level of self-awareness and previous experience with meditation and self-inquiry. This should discourage no one, however novice or veteran. The journey is, after all, infinite and inevitable; moreover, the tools and support we need at each step tend to present themselves when we are ripe to employ them.

The length and repetitiveness of the book's exposition may put off some readers. Brown acknowledges this early on. In a way these very challenges serve to measure the focus and motivation of the practitioner. Each one must tap his own wisdom, patience and willingness to persevere. This self-responsibility is a fundamental factor in the success of the endeavor. The planet can only benefit from this book's success in reaching and inspiring each soul ready and willing to humbly and courageously embrace wholeness!

The power of The Presence Process is directly related to the realized consciousness from which it flows. During the course of the last several weeks as I have recommended the book to a number of my patients I found many of them going through a profound awakening. People who have been stuck for a long time and people who just did not know how to get out of their problems have found themselves empowered with a new vision and a new conviction. Areas of life that have been off limits and unaccounted for have taken on a new significance and opened as if a secret passage for real movement. What seemed impossible to overcome has become a living possibility. This goes for so called emotional issues as well as very serious medical conditions such as ALS

In getting straight to the point I will simply state that The Presence Process by Michael Brown is the most profound book in its genre that I have ever experienced.  The ideas presented, though deeply thought provoking and far-reaching, are surprisingly accessible through the author's skilful use of metaphor, word reversals and phonetic dissections that make the text uniquely engaging and easy to absorb.

In addition, if one commits to the 10 week The Presence Process procedure which is straightforward and simple to follow, real and lasting, life altering results can truely be experienced.  As a counsellor, life coach and meditation facilitator my intention, through extensive study over many years, has been aimed at dealing correctively with issues in the human condition that block or hinder one from reaching their fullest potential.  But only since reading and facilitating myself through The Presence Process have I discovered that by merely being a companion to those clients willing to take on the 10 week The Presence Process for themselves, the most beneficial and sustainable results are achieved.  The bottom line is there is great benefit for all of who are willing to become self-facilitators fully responsible for their life experience.  And The Presence Process delivers the ultimate "How To" for doing just that!

TPP is awesome. I have recommended it to just the right person at least once a week. I am nearly done. I plan to repeat the process after a hiatus of some time so that the experience feels fresh. Michael has allowed the brilliance of Spirit to lay out a revolutionary process by which we can release ourselves to authentic living. What joy!

Dear Loves. I have come to a place in my understanding where I see through illusions and I know that all in my world is a out-manifestation of all I feel within. Whether conscious or not I can not be fooled my be. For all reflects all I AM -Part of my path is about being open to clear channels of resonance...Harmony becomes me when I merge with a similar frequency. Recently I picked up a book and I merged in Love with the One who brough this forth. I feel no separation in what he shares in this book. As I read what he shares I feel as though he and I are dancing to the most beautiful sounds of love.

His name is Michael Brown the book is "Prescence Process". I don't usually endorse books since I know all is within. Even my own (John and mine) books I keep to myself for the most part but this book.... as is my Course in Miracles Path.... is flawless. I wish to invite all that resonates with what I share here to pick up the book and feel what is shared....If it feels right...Enjoy the experience...

This book is born out of Michael Brown's attempt to deal with his own suffering from an acute neurologicla condition for which conventional medicine has no cure or treatment. Faced with the tyranny of pain, Brown developed a personal method of self-healing -- 'THE PRESENCE PROCESS', A healing journey into present moment awareness.

The contents of this book are inspiring and full of wisdom. What makes this book even more authentic isthat it is born out of Brown's journey to make sense of his condition and come to terms with delilitating bouts of pain. 'THE PRESENCE PROCESS' is laid out in ten sessions with simple-to-follow instructions through which one can transcend daily suffering, pain and addictions.

There are various other resources on 'awareness', but this book definitely stands out as it comes from the womb of personal pain and eventual liberation. Michael Brown has done a great job laying out is personal journey for others to follow. Through this book he shows that despite our circumstances, we still hold reasonable sway on the 'present moment' of life. Simple, inspiring, healing and transcending.

I am so grateful and inspired with this gift from Spirit; I am not sure where to start. To begin my review, I must thank Namaste Publishing/Beaufort Books and author Michael Brown for the opportunity to share The Presence Process with Spirit-Works readers and allowing me ample time to review this work in the most significant way I know how…by experiencing it.
I thought it might be helpful for the readers of this review to observe the changes the Process can make. So I am offering my experience to you. I journaled the following on July 6, 2005:

I am just so restless with this garbage in my head. I am ready to dump it all and “just be”. I don’t know how to live without it. Every day that I can remember has had some kind of anxiety attached to it. Why do I need limitation? Why do I need any kind of conflict?

And just as Michael Brown states, when you ask, you receive. The very next day The Presence Process arrived in my mailbox for review.

The Presence Process is a comprehensive guide for individuals to transform the way they experience the world. It is not about changing your environment, though it will: it is about making an internal shift. The act of mindfulness and “being still” can lead to clarity and understanding which has the fundamental capacity to change the world, one individual at a time. This book is unique in that the author brings the reader through each step completely and compassionately. No one is left behind, unless it is of your own choosing. I appreciated Brown’s explanations of behavior that might be experienced due to an innate resistance to change and his encouragement to continue the Process.

Before actively engaging in the Process, the book does well by offering the information needed. Brown touches on aligning our intention with the Process and what will be required from the individual, including commitments of time and effort. Brown addresses the basics of why there is drama in our lives and the emotional body charges we carry from one experience to the next. He goes on to reveal the Seven Year Cycle of development, beginning from 0-7 years of age, which is the emotional stage; 7-14 years of age is the mental stage; and 14-21 years of age is the physical stage. Most of our pain and negative emotional charges occur in the first 7 years of life. We proceed through life recycling through these initial pains over and over again. This is why we experience the same problems repeatedly. The author goes on to explain that through the Process, “We are gradually neutralizing the negative impact it (past wound) has on the quality of our present moment awareness. Once this cycle is sufficiently dismantled, we will then find ourselves standing at the edge of our personal void: the place we have for so long avoided.” This Process is not for the weak: it requires you to stare fear and pain in the face, ultimately rendering it powerless.

In the Process, we move from reacting to our environment and the people in our personal surroundings, to understanding that those around us are offering opportunities to heal. “They are the ones who loved us enough to take on the painful roles of reflecting our own hidden pain back to us so that we had the opportunity to see it, feel it, and integrate it.” The Process takes us away from trying to fix the mirror and leads us to focus on the subject gazing in the mirror. This is life empowerment, rather than the old victimization of the past.

The Presence Process consists of three activities:

• Being still or meditating 15 minutes each morning and evening (while breathing in a continuous way).

• Repeating the Presence Activating Statements (1 per weekly session)

• Reading the corresponding sections of the book.

There are 10 weekly sessions. Please know that the author realizes not everyone will choose the experiential journey. Many may opt for simply reading the book. Each path is respected and absolutely acceptable. The belief is that nothing happens by mistake and you will be lead to experience The Presence Process as you are supposed to, if at all. This Process is an offering of wisdom, pure and simple. You may accept it; you may not. You may be ready for it; you may not.

I have to say this Process is the closest thing to magic that I know of. There is something substantial and significant here. I have been fortunate enough in my life to read many wonderful thoughts from many wonderful authors; this one is truly transformational, if you are ready for it.

It works on unconscious, conscious, and spiritual levels. You experience the change and you aren’t sure why. Sometimes life is beyond words and understanding, I suppose. As one proceeds through each step, the Process becomes more and more sacred, because you are witnessing spirit in action. “It is the presence of our conscious attention and our compassionate intention that successfully neutralizes them” (emotional blockages). You can see that as you heal and neutralize your negative emotional charges, your life experiences change because your perception no longer carries the weight of your emotional burdens. “A reliable indicator that we have entered present moment awareness is that our life experience, no matter how it may appear outwardly in any given moment, is infused inwardly with the resonance of deep gratitude.” There is a shift from getting to giving; from entitlement to gratitude; from pain to liberation. You do the work, you heal your wounds, and you live a transformed life. It is the ultimate practice in personal free will and responsibility. Once you begin, life begins to align with purpose and you experience what it is like to be ‘in the flow.’”

I cannot possibly write enough or describe fully this Process to you. If there is a book to read, it is this one. It is a guide on how to live consciously and stop reacting from unconscious wounds. It is personal liberation and personal acceptance. “In the end, our validation of ourselves has to be sufficient.” We no longer have to “do”, we can “be”. I asked for a way to “just be”, and I received a step-by-step guide, illuminated with the wisdom to recognize it when I arrive. Thank you Great Spirit and thank you Mr. Brown…my cup is overflowing.

On a personal note, this Process is not easy, but it is profound. I came to the end of the Process with productive tools that I apply to my daily life. I am far from done -- but now I am have a map, and I feel I am headed in the right direction.

“ In my heart, I know that all who consciously choose to read this book or to complete this procedure take a profound leap into their emotional abyss and consequently activate the experience of “raising themselves from the dead.” Michael Brown

This is a very important book: simple, rich and clear.

More and more of us are waking up and glimpsing the Truth of our nature. Then, it would seem, many of us reluctantly experience a “sliding back” into the morass of forgetfulness and doubt, apparently losing the peace that permeated our experience during the moments (or longer) of realization.

In The Presence Process, author Michael Brown almost seems to pick up where Eckhart Tolle left off in the brilliant Power of Now, by expounding on, and offering practical support to master, the phenomena that draw us back into the tricks and traps of the mind and time.

Brown echoes the same ideas about the nature of our true essence and our illusions as Tolle and others. He acknowledges the contradictions of human experience, then he illuminates the mechanisms, and perhaps even the evolutionary value, of our illusory identities. It is a tasty stroke of irony that he calls his means of solidifying one’s abidance in the timeless now a Process, which acknowledges time and ego and actually employs them in their own annihilation

The book begins by tracing the evolution of our psycho-emotional “structure,” before introducing a container in which it may be consciously dismantled. Brown is quite thorough in his analysis and may seem rather long-winded to some. Overall, though, the insights are rewarding and the deliberateness of the delivery serves to cultivate a confidence in the process and in our own wisdom and “resourcedness”.
.
Brown does not skirt the mire of layered emotional beliefs and patterns, which compose our personal identities and are often the invisible Wizard of Oz that runs us from behind the subconscious’ curtain. Many wise voices have warned or guided us away, aware of the sway and momentum of these influences to carry our attention into dense wood and dead end -- “away” from clarity and Presence. Brown has us lean in --wakefully, calmly, courageously, compassionately -- from our strengthening roots in the Present.

In this way, the light of Presence illuminates and defines that which is not the true and eternal self. Once restfully and wholly witnessed, experienced – no longer denied—these stories lose their gravity and fall away.

Those readers who have reached a certain level of awareness and experience with spiritual practices may resist the idea of another system, process or recipe for enlightenment. However, most of us have, by now, found that these tools appear in our consciousness as we become ready to use them. Moreover, this work, whether just in the reading or in actually undertaking the full Process, holds the promise of much reward, of remembering and deepening.

While the exposition may be lengthy, the process itself is profoundly simple, consisting of a breathing practice, an “activation statement,” and relevant readings that lend support and focus as the process unfolds. I venture that every bit of attention, time and energy invested promises poignant and generous return. I shall dispense with further intellectual analysis and simply say: This book is indeed a gift, one for which I myself am grateful.

Christmas shopping will be easy this year!

Thank you for writing your book and making TPP available to everyone. I have found it so far to be accessible, user-friendly, and, most important to me, effective. Having spent many years searching for "enlightenment" and only in the last few years having slowly come to consider the possibility that "enlightenment" is not what I thought it was, I have been looking for ways - any way actually - to find and live out what I now, for lack of a better word, refer to as "freedom." I had fairly strong skepticism when I picked up the book at the store, but something about it made me buy it anyhow and read the introductory materials right away. And now, in my fifth week of the procedure, I am glad I did. The statements work. The explanatory materials make sense. The breathing exercises are remarkably effective in bringing up, activating, and integrating material previously not dealt with. For someone like me, who at this point prefers to do things mostly on my own, this is absolutely perfect.

This book goes right on the shelf with the best of Jon Kabat-Zinn, Eckhart Tolle, and Ram Dass – it is that good. By now, if you’ve been paying any attention to the spiritual best-sellers of the last several years, than you know that the key to changing the quality of your life is to live in the now… but for most of us, that is easier said than done. “Now” is usually the moment when the red traffic light turns green – and no more.

Even those experienced in meditation or self-hypnosis usually only achieve present moment awareness while in an altered state – a partial solution, at best. Well, help is on the way -- With The Presence Process author Michael Brown has written a terrific and easy to follow guide for cultivating and maintaining present moment awareness. This book is a phenomenal weaving of the best of spirituality and psychology, written with a light touch and a straight-forward manner.

The author briefly recounts his own experience of protracted illness and his various attempts to heal himself using both alternative and allopathic means. From there he followed a variety of disciplines that led to sporadic moments of awareness, or “being present,” which in turn led to spiritual growth and healing. Mr. Brown then spent several years studying and refining the techniques for attaining that present moment awareness that leads to deep healing and spiritual growth, so that he could offer them to others. His stated goal is “To leave a trail for others who want to show up in their life experience.”

The Presence Process offers a methodical way to liberate the distracted mind – and it’s distraction, either thoughts of the past or the future, that prevent us from being in the now. Mr. Brown explains many of the distractions that come up for all of us and then, best of all, what to do about them. Layer by layer, the author helps us to activate our own Inner Presence allowing us to change our perceptions of the present, to become more creative and joyful, to shed all the old emotions that are holding us back, and to be grateful and peaceful with our lives right now.

The book is designed so that this activation may be done on two levels: the first, from simply reading the book, and the second from engaging in the breathing exercises that follow a week-by-week practicum for even greater spiritual growth. Don’t be put off by the idea of exercises, this is breath-work even a slacker can do!! The results are phenomenal and immediate – if you can breathe you can do this practice and be guaranteed results.

On a spiritual note, readers who are familiar with A Course In Miracles may find some similarities, although The Presence Process is much more accessible. The idea that our Inner Presence or Inner Facilitator will lead us to what we need, and that this part of us knows no order of difficulty, is reminiscent of the former, as is the concept of perceiving continuity and connection with all of life – but the latter wins points for clarity in better explaining how our outer circumstances are a direct result of our inner turmoil.

All of this would be recommendation enough, but The Presence Process has that added quality of immediate activation for the reader -- simply from reading the book, you may feel old unintegrated emotions resolving, momentary calm and new strength. If you choose to do the breath-work, it is truly astounding – while the author promises a gentle long-term healing, you will feel like you are getting rapid, inspiring results. The Presence Process is one of the most up-lifting and deep healing books you are likely to come across for some time to come.

The Presence Process is an astounding psychological and spiritual victory!

I felt very privileged to have received an early copy of Michael Brown's "The Presence Process". Michael's insights are the most profound and comprehensive that I have encountered during my thirty years of both personal and professional work in the area of spiritual transformation. He has captured the essence of in-depth psychological work in the service of spiritual growth, and has been able to translate this understanding into a logical, sequential and simple-to-follow (if not easy) process of healing and releasing old and stubborn obstacles. The Presence Process has wide-ranging and revolutionary implications for our evolution as spiritual beings on this lovely planet. I am deeply grateful to Michael Brown for generously making "The Presence Process" more easily accessible in book form.

The Presence Process not only has insightful and relevant text, but it also introduced me to some simple and highly effective practical tools that I know will benefit me throughout my life.

What an extraordinary accomplishment! What a most excellent read. Sincerest thanks for sharing this with me. From the moment I began reading it, it moved rapidly to the top of my current priorities. Spirit subsequently cleared my calendar and allowed me space to immerse myself in it completely. I was so “high” by the time I finished it, I felt like I was in an altered state! I felt energized, quickened, activated, accelerated, and enriched way beyond what I imagined was possible just from reading a book. Its truths ring out like church bells throughout its pages... It's been a long time - many years - since I received such a charge from a book. There is surely a place in this world for its message.

And after only 5 days into Session One, the transformations in my experience and revolutions occurring in my thinking and perceptions left me awed and filled with wonder. I must have been ripe and ready for harvest. Within the span of a week, my daily life became filled with more abundance and gratitude than I thought possible in such a short time. And now synchronous events are appearing at every turn, leaving me in astonishment, not only in my daily life experience, but also in the daily lives of those around me.

Thanks again, friend and brother, from the center of my heart, for writing The Presence Process.

From the very first pages I was moved to tears... Reading The Presence Process gave me such hope for healing my life... having dealt with physical pain from rheumatoid arthritis for 25 years ... I read the book while on holiday... As I turned the pages I could feel the process already taking over... I could actually feel the freedom I was reading about ... It is with an open heart that I embark on The Presence Process...

When I first started reading this book I didn't know what to expect. Would it be like 'Primal Therapy', or similar to the rebirthing books that have appeared over the years. It soon became clear that Michael Brown had a plan and if one followed this 'plan', which is clearly laid-out in the book, one could make progress towards this 'state of presence', which is often referred to.

As described in the book, most of the 'stuff' that impedes or impacts us happened in the first seven years of our development, the 'emotional years' before rational thought is clearly formed, and these experiences, unless looked at, will affect us throughout our life. Michael gives us the tools to look at and defuse these 'emotional charges' so life can be free of these imbalances... I likened this process to that of a soiled pane of glass. This pane of glass has the imprint of our past, maybe the imprint from the hand of a stern father, maybe the teardrop stain of not being heard and the hurt that followed etc, one could go on ... Through this process these imprints and smudges can be removed from this 'pane of glass' and the clarity that was already (always) there can be revealed. Just by reading the book I felt that this process had already begun.

Another very attractive aspect of this book is that Michael's motive is to give us a complete course to follow and guide us through it... this comes with the one time cost of the book, removing the sometime hidden agenda of therapists (dealing with similar scenarios) to keep the 'process' going for as long as the client is prepared to pay.

So thank you Michael and on to the next phase of diving in...

As soon as I began actually reading the pages it was difficult to put down. You MUST hear what this man has to say- it's so profound and immediately effective that you will not want to let another day go by without seeing life through the new, open eyes these insights provide- PLUS its a thoroughly explained mega-tool to help get at and remove what's truly been blocking you. Michael enters your life like Rumi's teacher Shams entered his- and he throws all your books down the well and says "Now, let me show you how to start living what you've been reading about." I see millions of people reading this and it creating a big leap forward into the new world.
